Sproul calls these verses the 'golden chain' (ordo salutis): foreknowledge, predestination, calling, justification, and glorification. Each link is welded by God's sovereign grace, so that salvation, once begun, cannot be broken.
God's foreknowing is not neutral foreseeing โ it is intimate, electing love. He foreknew (foreloved) the people he would save before the foundation of the world.
The goal of predestination is that believers be conformed to the image of the Son โ sanctification as the outworking of grace โ so that Christ becomes 'the firstborn among many brothers.'
Christ's resurrection as the firstborn among the dead guarantees a company of many brothers โ the resurrected saints who share his likeness and inheritance.
The chain's sequence โ predestined, called, justified, glorified โ means glorification is already certain for those whom God has called and justified; nothing can sever the links of God's purpose.
